Supporting Diverse Communities in High Point

Food is more than fuel—it's identity, tradition, and dignity.

At the Greater High Point Food Alliance, we recognize that culturally appropriate food access is critical to food justice. For individuals and families from immigrant, refugee, and diverse backgrounds, accessing familiar, culturally meaningful foods can influence whether they feel welcomed, nourished, and genuinely supported in our community.

We're proud to share the Culturally Appropriate Food Guide, a comprehensive resource developed in partnership with World Relief Triad and the High Point University Center for Community Engagement. This guide helps local food pantries, nonprofits, and community members better understand the dietary needs and preferences of the Greater High Point area's most represented international communities.

In the culturally appropriate food guide, you'll find:

  • Overviews of major immigrant and refugee populations in High Point

  • Lists of culturally important food items by region:

    • Central Africa

    • South Asia

    • Southeast Asia

    • Middle East & North Africa

    • Hispanic/Latino

  • Recommended local grocery stores that carry culturally specific items

  • Insights into holiday food traditions and religious dietary practices (e.x. halal foods)

  • Suggestions for inclusive, equitable food distribution practices
